Film Studies
Statement of Intent
The key aim of Film Studies is to allow students to gain an understanding and appreciation of the medium of film and the social and cultural messages conveyed through it. Students develop knowledge and understanding of the key elements of film form through studying a range of films from different genres, time periods and countries. They will apply their understanding of the key elements in a practical and imaginative way and will learn to articulate clearly their opinions, ideas and experiences and develop skills of critical analysis through discussion and written expression. Students will study the explicit and implicit meanings within films and evaluate and reflect on their own practical film making and that of others.
